The Bishops’ Blue Coat CE High School hosts first-ever Chester Schools Together chess event
On Thursday 24th April 2025, The Bishops’ Blue Coat Church of England High School proudly hosted the first-ever Chester Schools Together Chess Tournament, welcoming young chess players from across the city.
The event was developed by the Bishops’ Chess Club, founded in 2024 by Mrs Gen Jones and a team of enthusiastic students from year 7, 8 and 9. After running a successful internal tournament in January, the club was keen to extend the opportunity to the partnership schools.
Students from Years 7, 8 and 10 competed in five rounds of chess. Resulting in 31 matches played. Trophies and chess sets were awarded to the overall winner, runner-up and the most outstanding player. All 32 participants received certificates recognising their efforts and sportsmanship.
